Re-booking a theory test
I work at a large driving examination centre. My duties include answering phone calls and arranging theory tests and practical driving examinations. Most of the time, people hope to be able to take their theory test as soon as possible. Sometimes they want to arrange an earlier date. Last week, a young girl phoned. She had already arranged her test for the fifteenth of October. But in the meantime somebody invited her for a job interview. She did not want to miss that chance because that was her dream job and she was really determined to get it. However, the interview was arranged for the fifteenth of August, too. She would not manage to get to the driving centre on that particular day. She asked me to help her. She really needed to take her theory test earlier. I was ready to rebook her test when I hesitated for a moment. I had better ask the boss, I thought. I found the boss in the other room and explained the situation. I added that I really wanted to help that girl and that it would not make any difference if one more person took the test in the examination room on the fourteenth of October. There were enough computers in the room. My boss finally gave her consent so I rushed to the phone to tell the girl the good news.
