SizeMore Golf XM-1 Signature Series Putter
Picking a putter to serve you well can be a problematic process, and models which tick all the right boxes can be few and far between. But we’ve discovered, what we think is, the best quality putter currently on the market. But not only is it great quality, it’s also amazing value for money and full of silky feel. Prepare to meet the SizeMore XM-1 Signature Series putter.
What they say:
The XM-1 is revolutionary by design, offering maximum speed and target control. This design features perfectly placed, built-in copper sidelines that accentuate the center alignment channel along with a choice of fully interchangeable alignment inserts. These inserts can accommodate both parallel and perpendicular optical alignment, depending on the player’s unique style and preference. Interchangeable end caps are available in different shapes, materials, and weights, offering further options to vary the putter’s optimal response; ultimately helping them to AIM with confidence.
What we say:
In our opinion, the most important aspects of a putter are the three F’s — feel, function and forgiveness.
A combination of the aforementioned can lead to some serious performance and confidence over the ball, and the result is more often than not a whole host of drained putts.
A lot of models currently on the market can provide some of these, but rarely does any putter tick all the boxes at once.
The latest offering from SizeMore does, though — and it has got many of us here at Whitley Golf very excited.
The XM-1 putter, which forms the cornerstone of the SizeMore Signature Series, is a forgiving yet beautiful mallet with butter-like feel and unrivalled accuracy.
It has a lovely square shape which sits beautifully behind the ball — it’s not too large and overfacing, but smaller and easier to line up.
The head comprises of two thick, copper-coloured bars which flank an interchangeable insert and includes a weighted bar at the back of the mallet which allows those who like a heavier head to have their way.
But what is most impressive about the XM-1 is the silky-smooth, feel-packed face.
With what the manufacturers claim is the ‘world’s flattest and most accurate face’, and a soft copper finish, the XM-1 has one of the truest and smoothest rolls of any putter we have tested. It also provides superb feedback and is very easy to judge.
We do have one reservation, though, and that is the headcover and grip combination.
The headcover looks ancient, one-dimensional and a little boring and the grip is rather smooth and doesn’t aid feedback whatsoever. However, these are merely minor faults and can be easily rectified with a trip to your local pro shop — other than this, we cannot find anything else that could be improved upon whilst keeping the great price tag.
Technology
Face
The XM-1 putter features SizeMore’s famous IND-X technology (left). The manufacturers claim this advanced finish is the flattest in the world of golf and is thus the most consistently accurate and easy to use. They say that even on shots away from the sweet spot, the ball will still travel true and provide superb feedback.
The technology is powered by a computer and notches markings into the face at 27 different angles. This, SizeMore says, creates a structure which gives a great deal of feel and accuracy.
Adjustability
One of the best things about the XM-1 putter is the way you can customise it. Thanks to Alignment Insert Management (AIM, right), a unique SizeMore technology, the user can adjust both the alignment insert and weight which feature at the back of the mallet. This means the putter caters for people with all tastes and feel and will allow you to get the very best out of the club. It also means that you can adjust the club according to the course you are playing — simply remove the screws using the allen key (which is part of the separately-sold $50 tool kit) and customise to your heart’s content.
To Sum Up…
A great all-round putter which will not only suit the higher handicapper, but provide a forgiving helping hand to even the most-stubborn of traditionalists. It’s great value, too, and comes with plenty of customisable features for those who like to change it up a bit.
